Rafael Gonçalves is a designer, researcher, and educator working at the intersection of design and computation. His practice — both individual and collective — centers on the design, development, and critical reflection of websites and browser-based artifacts. Under the url, username, and studio rafaelgoncalves.pt, he explores hyper-narratives, brand-placing, and interactive storytelling.
His work spans cultural and institutional projects, participatory archives, collaborative tools, and web-based artistic experiences. He has collaborated with institutions and brands such as the Porto Design Biennale, Museum Folkwang, Trienal de Arquitetura de Lisboa, Softrock, Faculdade de Arquitetura do Porto, Éden X, Galeria Municipal do Porto, Portuguese Supreme Court and Contemporânea. In parallel, he teaches Web Design, Web Development, and Creative Coding at ESAD Matosinhos and is pursuing a PhD in Computational Media Design at the University of Coimbra.
The Lecture and subsequent Workshop, aimed exclusively at students on the MA in Communication Design, is part of the programme of lectures and intensive workshops on this MA coordinated by Andrew Howard.
