The short film ‘Echoes of Solitude’ (2024), produced and directed by the finalists of the Digital Arts and Multimedia Degree (2023/2024) - Christoph Wanderer, André Peneda, Diogo Cervantes and Pedro Carvalho - won 2nd place in the Experimental Film category at the Sophia Student Awards 2025. The winners were announced on 23 January 2025, highlighting the talent and creativity of the young filmmakers.
"Echoes of Solitude" explores themes of isolation and introspection through a visually striking narrative, confirming the students’ innovative approach to experimental cinema.
The Sophia Student Awards are the only national event dedicated exclusively to film and audiovisual students in Portugal. The aim of this event is to encourage and reward new generations of filmmakers, to give educational establishments with film and audiovisual courses the opportunity to exhibit projects developed in a school context and to promote the sharing of knowledge and dialogue between teachers, students and professionals in the field.
The project was supervised by teachers Marta Varzim, Tomé Quadros and Bárbara Oliveira, with the support of ESAD and the ERASMUS+ international mobility programme.
