João Gomes

João Gomes is an architect from the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra (DARQ FCTUC), having graduated in 2000. Between 1996 and 2016, he collaborated with architect José Gigante. He currently splits his time between the architecture studio “baseArquitetos”, where he carries out projects in a variety of areas and scales, such as residential buildings, retail, services, rehabilitation, urban planning and public space, and teaching subjects in the area of Design and Construction at ESAD and Lusófona University.

He has coordinated self-construction workshops organized by ESAD since 2013 and was the curator of the self-construction workshop Petites Folies on the Douro as part of the Porto Design Biennale 2021 Satellite Program.  In 2021 he curated the exhibition Habitar Portugal 12-17: Espaço Público.
